Create a cleaner and fresher Bathroom with our Bathroom Cleaning Tips!

April 15, 2011

1. Welcome to our Bathroom Cleaning Tips Page.

Oh! So you have decided to do the cleaning yourself. Is this something you thought you had to do or are you one of those that enjoy cleaning and find it therapeutic? Anyway whatever the reason cleaning your bathroom is one of the best places to start.

The bathroom is one of the used most rooms in the house and this is one of the rooms, apart from the kitchen that must be cleaned or have cleaned on a daily basis. You have a bath in there every day, you use the toilet bowl,

you use the sink, you brush your teeth (Oh! Don't you hate those toothpaste spots or do you like looking through a frosty mirror?).

If you are a family this can be a well traversed room indeed on a regular basis. If it does not get some sort of maintenance on a regular basis then it would soon get into a right state indeed.

So this is indeed a good place to start. So let's begin with our Bathroom Cleaning

2. Preparation.

First, gather all the utensils, tools and cleaners that you need to do this chore?

What? You mean you have not done this or planned what you need to do? Please see Our Cleaning if needed ?
You will need goggles (for eye protection), a couple of sponges, paper towels, a two gallon bucket, a toilet brush, a stiff brush with storage container, an old toothbrush, bleach or ammonia, water, a mildew remover and rubber gloves to protect your hands. Then clear the whole area that needs to be cleaned of knick-knacks including removing everything around the toilet, such as items on the tank, lid covers, and mats around the base of the toilet.

 3. Spray the bathtub and shower.

The first thing to do is to spray the bathtub and shower with the mildew remover and let it sit for a few minutes. Open the windows and doors to make sure that the bathroom is well ventilated for the fumes that the cleaners will cause. After you spray down the bath tub and shower, move to the toilet.

4. Clean the toilet.

This is at the top of our Bathroom Cleaning Tips.

Put on the goggles. In the bucket, mix two parts water to one part of bleach or ammonia.

Put the rubber gloves on and pour a little of the mixture into the toilet. Take the sponge and dip it into the bucket of the mixture and wipe down the rim of the toilet and the seat.

Also wipe the outside of the bowl and the base of the toilet using the paper towels for this and not a sponge. The reason is sponges spread disease around and no one knows if a sponge has been used on a toilet. You wouldn't want that sponge to go elsewhere in the household. Make sure to also wipe the area behind the seat.

Take the toilet brush and begin to scrub the inside of the toilet. Rinse your sponge as needed and then rinse in fresh water and rewipe the entire area to remove the chemicals. Flush the toilet.

Voila, the hardest and most avoidable of this task is done.

Throw away the toilet sponge and replace. Then move to the sink next.

5. Clean the sink.

Take your replacement sponge and dip it into your bucket. Wipe down the entire counter, taps, and sink. Rinse the sponge in the bucket as needed and then rinse in fresh water and rewipe the entire area to once again remove any of the chemicals.

Take the old toothbrush and dip it into your bucket. Scrub any areas around the taps and sink to remove any mildew that may be hiding in any small places. Then rinse with fresh water. Wipe down with a clean dry rag. Shine chrome of the taps with a soft rag.

Take your sponge and redip again in the mixture in the bucket. Ring out and wipe down the skirting-boards. Rinse in fresh water, ring out and rewipe skirting-boards to remove any chemicals.

6. Clean bathtub and shower.

Go back to the bathtub and shower that you had sprayed with the mildew remover. This would have done most of the work for you. There may be some soap scum build up left and for that you will need your bucket of cleaner and your stiff brush.

Take the stiff brush and begin to gently scrub the entire tub and walls. Redip when needed.

Once all the tub and walls and curtain and/or doors are scrubbed clean, take the old toothbrush out again and dip into the mixture. Scrub the taps and drain areas.

Pour out mixture in the bucket and fill with fresh water. Rinse the tub and shower down to remove the chemicals. Take another dry clean rag and wipe any water off the walls and floor of the tub and shower.

Lastly, mop the floor.

You can buy a cleaner that you spray after every use of the shower or bath to maintain freshness.

7. That's it. You're done!!

'You mean that is it?' Yes that is it. Those are our Bathroom Cleaning Tips.

It seems so easy on paper doesn't it? It may be daunting at first to do. However once you've done it a couple of times, you will get into a routine and it will no longer seem so difficult.

You may have left it to build up for a long time in the past and when it comes to doing it, it was quite a challenge that you may have avoided, especially when you do not know how to do it properly. However follow the above and tips and this will not be the case any more.

Once the initial 'deep cleaning' is done, this can be a once a week or even a once a fortnight task and will definitely be a lot easier than the initial clean.

8. Updates are ongoing.

More information about Bathroom Cleaning Tips will be given as we develop this site further. Please bear with us as we gather the relevant information.
